Congratulations on becoming an online store owner! Building your own business is a fun experience that literally pays off. It is very exciting when you start as an entrepreneur, because everything is new. However, sometimes new entrepreneurs get excited about things they shouldn’t. Even I, who have experience in entrepreneurship, have made mistakes. For that reason, I have created this guide with 50 Ecommerce tips for beginner entrepreneurs like you, so you can get off to a good start from the beginning and generate income with your new store.

Ecommerce Tip (# 1): Experiment as if your business depends on it.

To really be successful, you will have to experiment a lot. To do this, you will need to create ads for different products, test different content, formats and images. Experimenting with ads is what will ultimately bring in customers and drive sales. Once you’ve created profitable ads, you can start experimenting with your website. Many people focus on improving their page first, but you won’t be able to know how customers respond to certain features if you haven’t implemented any. Avoid assuming things about your customers and keep your mind open to the possibility of being wrong and not really knowing what works. The only way to know the truth is by looking at the data.

Ecommerce Tip (# 2): Don’t keep the profits, at least for now.

Keeping your hard-earned earnings can be tempting. However, if you want to grow your store, you must reinvest that money in the business. Money calls money. Instead of saving it, use it to buy new equipment, or spend it on advertising. For example, at first you can create multiple $ 5 ads to see which products people respond best to. However, once you have found your winning product, you will need to invest much more than that amount to really start making money.

If your goal is to make $ 3,000 per month in profit, you will need to invest approximately $ 3,000 in ads, which will generate income in the order of $ 9,000. Facebook ads convert better for my business, but each case is different, so you need to find out what type of ad works best for your store. Reinvesting the profits over several months will help your business grow and become sustainable. In the long run, you can live on the money you are making.

Ecommerce Tip (# 3): Implement a schedule for consistency.

When you start your online store, you must stick to a consistent schedule so that your customers know when they can visit your store again. For example, if you add new products every week, you should do it on the same day of the week so that people will visit your store again that day, every week. If you decide to create and maintain a blog, posting on the same days will motivate people to keep checking your page on those specific days. Lack of consistency can affect the loyalty of your customers.

Ecommerce Tip (# 4): Build your channels from day one.

As soon as you’ve purchased your store’s domain name, start building your audience. You can start by posting on social media to cultivate a fan base so that when it’s time to open your store, you have an audience ready to buy. Once you’ve launched your store, you should start collecting email addresses and building referral traffic, as this will allow you to grow your network of buyers much faster. Developing your social networks, email lists and referral traffic will allow you to promote your content through your own channels, so in the long term, spending on ads will be lower.

Ecommerce Tip (# 5): Cultivate relationships with relevant influencers.

It takes a few months to find the most suitable influencers to promote your products, and even then there are no guarantees. In my case, I found an excellent influencer to promote my products, but within six months I was doing so many sponsored posts that it was no longer effective. Finding a good influencer is more difficult than it sounds. Sometimes the cost is high, but you don’t see the result in the sales conversion. We recommend checking out Famebit to find the best influencers.

Ecommerce Tip (# 6): Make sure customers have access to relevant information.

When you open your online store, make sure your customers have access to all the information they need to make their purchase. In this sense, you should include information about shipments and returns so that customers know your business policies before buying. Make sure your contact page is visible so that customers can easily contact you with a question or concern. In the Shopify article Getting started in e-commerce: elements to create your online store you will find everything you need to implement in your virtual store.

Ecommerce Tip (# 7): Pay attention to content writing.

Many Ecovs users make the mistake of not adding content when importing products into their store. Posting a list of specifications for your product is helpful, but it doesn’t help convert sales on its own. Therefore, writing a product description and selecting its most relevant characteristics from the list will help you achieve more sales. Usually people read the content if they are not completely determined about the product. With a short paragraph in which you describe the benefits of the product, indicating its characteristics and explain how to use it, you can persuade your visitor to make the purchase. For example, if you sell dresses in your store, you can describe the cut, the type of fabric and how it complements the figure, and point out to your customers how good they would look with that piece. You can also recommend products to complement the dress, such as shoes and jewelry.

Ecommerce Tip (# 8): Create a website with an attractive design.

Your website must be visually attractive in its entirety. Your product pages should display multiple product images, showing the different angles and uses of the product. Your home page should have a banner image that attracts attention and allows the customer to imagine with the product. Even your blog posts need to be highly visual, so use multiple images, gifs, or even place a video in each post to separate bodies of text.

Ecommerce Tip (# 9): Look for an Ecommerce brand that you can emulate.

In the beginning, it is important to have a mentor. However, finding a successful ecommerce one can be difficult. Often times people don’t want to share their niche markets, ad templates, and answer questions that can be easily searched on Google. You could join a community to occasionally ask for advice. However, the most effective way to be successful in this regard is to find an ecommerce brand that you would like to emulate, and try to follow suit with your brand. For example, if you want to have a customer-oriented business, you could emulate the Disney model; If you want to master the art of promoting your brand, follow the example of Dollar Shave Club, and if your goal is to create a large market, then Amazon can serve as inspiration for your store model. You do not have to copy their niche markets or styles to achieve success, you just need to determine the aspects that you love about a particular store and apply them in your Ecommerce.

Ecommerce Tip (# 10): Use the Peek User Testing tool to get feedback on your store.

When you create your new online store it is important that you get opinions and feedback. However, it is a big mistake to try to get it from other entrepreneurs in public forums, since by doing so you share your niche and products with your competitors. Other entrepreneurs may be able to offer valuable information, but it is unwise to rely on feedback from people who are likely competing with you. Therefore, never reveal your niche to another entrepreneur. You can use Peek User Testing to get a free review of your desktop and mobile website to learn how you can improve it. You can also pay a small commission to get a more detailed review of your store.

Ecommerce Tip (# 11): Create specific product categories so customers can easily find your products.

In the initial stages, when you only have 15 products, you might choose to put them all together in generic categories. However, as your store grows, you should start assigning more specific categories to your products. Product categories such as “Lady”. “Gentleman” and “Children” are not very useful in terms of SEO and yet their use is still widespread in many stores. What is worse, many online stores display all their women’s fashion products under the category “lady”, without using sub-categories. Most people are not interested in going through an entire collection to find that the store does not sell dresses, for example. Look at how Amazon organizes its product categories, you will see that it is very easy to find very specific items. The easier it is for a customer to find what they are looking for, the more likely they are to buy from your store.

Ecommerce Tip (# 12): Have a presence on different social media platforms.

Many online stores make the mistake of only having a presence on a social media platform. For example, some stores exclusively use Instagram and focus their efforts on influencer marketing; others opt for Facebook, since the ads on this platform work very well for their store. However, although having a presence on different platforms requires a little more work, it gives your business a competitive advantage. If a competitor sees that you only have a presence on Instagram and decides to focus their efforts on expanding their presence on different social networks, this will hurt your business in the long run. Having a presence on three or four social networks is usually manageable. Do not depend on a single platform, as one day it may disappear and you will be left empty-handed.
